The Coffee Industry Corporation Ltd (CIC), values the hard work put in to coffee by ordinary PNG women and continues to engaged them in various coffee forums and projects.
Recently, 10 mothers proudly graduated with certificates in Coffee Quality Control among a total of 86 participants in a Coffee Quality Training conducted by CIC, for the Tarabo Coffee Growers Association of the Okapa District in Eastern Highlands province.
During their graduation, Chairman of Eastern Highlands Province

Korarome, expressed that women do most of the hard work in
processing the coffee and the men dominate the marketing of it, and
usually results, in an unfair distribution of the coffee income.
He said the world is changing a lot of cultures and women must be recognized as equal partners in the work and benefits of coffee.
Mr. Korarome, challenged the male coffee farmers to respect the womenfolk and work together to raise the quality of coffee in order to attain a premium price.
General Manager for CIC’s Research & Grower Service Division, Dr. Mark Kenny urged the graduates to return to their coffee gardens and apply the skills acquired and become advocates of quality coffee in their area.
The Coffee Quality training is part of CIC’s Participatory Rural Appraisal Program (PRAP) in bringing awareness and training to coffee farmers throughout the country.
The graduation also coincided with the launching of the District By District Village coffee rehabilitation program by Okapa MP, Hon. Bonny Oveyara.
